Product Introduction

"More Steel. Closer Spacing. Built for a Serious 12-Metre Span."

Built for a Serious 12-Metre Span

A 12-metre clear span places greater demands on the frame, which is why the TS1212(3m) is built with heavier steel and closer arch spacing.

✔ 76mm OD × 2.5mm Heavy-Duty Arches — substantially more steel than lightweight 1.8–2.0mm-wall alternatives.

✔ 9 Arches at 1.5m Spacing — compared with the 7 arches at 2.0m spacing commonly found on 12m-long alternatives. That means 29% more arch frames across the same shelter length.

✔ 1,300kg Total Package Weight  — 200kg heavier than comparable 12m-wide shelters at approx. 1,100kg. That extra weight comes from the heavier steel frame and closer arch spacing.

✔ Grade 8.8 High-Tensile Bolts — used throughout the structure, compared with the Grade 4.8 bolts commonly used on other competing domes. Here's why that matters.

✔ No-Weld Lock-Clamp System — secure container mounting without welding, simplifying installation and allowing the shelter to be relocated if required.

✔ 610gsm UV-Treated PVC Cover — heavy-duty, fire-retardant and waterproof protection for machinery, vehicles and stored assets.

Why Does Arch Spacing Matter on a 12m Container Dome?

On a 12m-wide shelter, frame design is about more than steel thickness. Arch spacing also determines how frequently the roof structure is supported along the length of the shelter.

The TS1212 uses 9 arches across its 12m length at 1.5m centres, compared with the 7 arches at 2.0m spacing commonly used on similar-sized shelters. This provides more support points along the shelter and reduces the unsupported distance between arches.

Combined with 76mm × 2.5mm arch tubes and 60mm × 1.5mm purlins, the closer spacing is a key part of ToughCover's heavy-duty approach to a 12m span.

Engineering & Compliance

The TS1212 is engineered with Australian conditions in mind, with structural design based on AS/NZS 1170.2:2021 wind actions.

From its 76mm × 2.5mm heavy-duty arches and 1.5m arch spacing to Grade 8.8 high-tensile bolts and No-Weld Lock-Clamp mounting, the TS1212 combines heavy-duty construction with a practical, installation-friendly design.

FAQs

Q: Does the TS1212(3m) cover two 40ft containers side by side? A: Yes — the 12-metre width spans two standard 40ft containers placed side by side, with the 12-metre length running along the containers.

Q: Why does the TS1212(3m) use 9 arch sets at 1.5m spacing? A: A 12-metre long shelter needs consistent load distribution across the full length. Nine arches at 1.5-metre centres gives the frame more contact points to spread the roof load evenly, reducing stress at each individual arch.

Q: Why does the TS1212(3m) weigh so much more than budget alternatives? A: It comes down to steel. Our 76 x 2.5mm tube has significantly more steel per metre than the 1.8mm or 2.0mm tube most budget suppliers use. Across nine full arches on a 12-metre span, that difference adds up fast — and it shows in the 1,300kg shipping weight.

Q: Are end walls available for the TS1212(3m)? A: The TS1212 ships open-ended. End walls and roller doors are available separately — see our End Walls & Doors range.

Q: What's the difference between the TS1212(3m) and the TS1206(3m)? A: Same 12-metre width, same steel spec, same arch spacing. The TS1212(3m) is 12 metres long (vs 6 metres for the TS1206(3m)), covers 144m² (vs 72m²), uses 9 arch sets (vs 5), and mounts with 18 Lock-Clamps (vs 10). It's designed for 40ft containers rather than 20ft.

Q: Is the 610gsm PVC cover fire-retardant? A: Yes. Every TS1212(3m) ships with a heavy-duty 610 g/m² UV-treated PVC cover that is fire-retardant and 100% waterproof.
